Thames Valley ($4.00) v ($1.22) Mid Canterbury

tvlmc14Thames Valley plays host to Mid Canterbury this weekend at the Paeroa Domain in Round Three of the Pink Batts Heartland Championship. Both sides have a win and a draw to their name but the Mainlanders have been more threatening in their first two outings as they thumped West Coast 52-27 at Ashburton followed by a 23 all draw in Masterton last week. The home side has only managed three tries in two games and will be wary of the visitor’s firepower out wide although the Thames Valley defence has only conceded three tries in two games as well.

This will be the Thames Valley team’s first Heartland game in Paeroa since the epic last round win over Wairarapa Bush that qualified the team for the Lochore Cup semi-finals last year and Coach Hayden Roe will be looking for a similar performance if his charges are to keep the Mid Canterbury boys at bay this week.

Experienced Captain John Dampney will lead the Green and Golds from up front while three quarter Dwayne Burrows poses a genuine threat to the Thames Valley defence, having scored a hat trick in the West Coast game with his strong running style, which is hard to combat.

Thames Valley lost newcomer Chance Bunce to a serious leg injury last week but Lance Easton is due to make his return from an early season knee problem and should fill the gap comfortably.

Kickoff is at 2.00pm and Referee for the day, Alistair Payne, makes the trip from Masterton to control the game.
