{"id":12524,"date":"2020-09-22T07:46:54","date_gmt":"2020-09-21T19:46:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rugbyheartland.co.nz\/wp\/?p=12524"},"modified":"2020-09-22T16:49:58","modified_gmt":"2020-09-22T04:49:58","slug":"all-blacks-sevens-and-black-ferns-sevens-crowned-world-series-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rugbyheartland.co.nz\/wp\/2020\/09\/22\/all-blacks-sevens-and-black-ferns-sevens-crowned-world-series-champions\/","title":{"rendered":"All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens crowned World Series champions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens players have received their World Series winning medals, trophies and a slew of awards announced by World Rugby today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The season was called off earlier this year due to Covid-19 and with the New Zealand teams leading the standings in both men\u2019s and women\u2019s competitions they were declared Series winners. It is the first combined victory since 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As well as receiving gold medals and the series trophies, individual player awards were also announced, with Stacey Fluhler the big winner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fluhler received the Gilbert Top Try Scorer, DHL Impact Player and was joined by teammates Ruby Tui and Tyla Nathan-Wong in the\u00a0women&#8217;s Dream Team. All Blacks Sevens co-captain Scott Curry was named in the men\u2019s Dream Team.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nathan-Wong was also recognized for becoming the second women\u2019s player to score 1000 series points with the UL Mark of Excellence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Black Ferns Sevens Co-Coach Cory Sweeney said it felt surreal being awarded the World Series trophy on the training field at Blake Park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s not quite the same as being in Paris to receive the awards but its really important, given what\u2019s happening at the moment, that we take a moment to celebrate what has been achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All Blacks Sevens Coach Clark Laidlaw echoed Sweeney\u2019s sentiments, reflecting on the team\u2019s last tournament in Vancouver in March and getting home just a week before borders were closed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis year has been surreal.
