\"\"New Zealand Rugby\u2019s (NZR) top performers of 2021 will be recognised in an ASB Rugby Awards TV event, with nominees announced today.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s awards, due to COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings, will be presented in a made-for-TV special on Sky Sport at 8pm Wednesday 15 December, with awards presented to leading teams, players, coaches, administrators, and referees.<\/p>\n

The ASB Rugby Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge all those involved in the game and the achievements of our players, referees and volunteers in 2021, NZR CEO Mark Robinson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite the challenges presented by COVID-19 we\u2019ve seen incredible resilience, dedication and excellence in our game. We are looking forward to celebrating the contributions and excellence across our rugby community and recognising what\u2019s been another exciting year for rugby,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cI\u2019d like to congratulate all the nominees, who once again show the breadth of talent we are lucky to have at all levels of our game.\u201d<\/p>\n

After an elongated international season, the coveted All Blacks Player of the Year Awards shape as close contests with four outstanding nominees. Wing Will Jordan<\/strong> is up against loose forward Ardie Savea<\/strong>, fullback Jordie Barrett<\/strong> and centre\/wing Rieko Ioane<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One of the world\u2019s leading Sevens players and Black Ferns Sevens Captain Sarah Hirini<\/strong> has been nominated for two awards. She will contest the Black Ferns Sevens Player of the Year award alongside Gayle Broughton<\/strong> and Tyla Nathan-Wong<\/strong>. Hirini is also up for the prestigious Tom French Memorial M\u0101ori Player of the Year, alongside M\u0101ori All Blacks Captain Ash Dixon<\/strong> and All Blacks halfback Aaron Smith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Black Ferns debutant Liana Mikaele-Tu\u2019u<\/strong> has been nominated for Black Ferns Player of the Year alongside loose forwards Les Elder<\/strong> and Kennedy Simon<\/strong>. The Fiao\u2019o Faamausili Medal nominees include Farah Palmer Cup (FPC) Waikato player Grace Houpapa-Barrett<\/strong>, Northland\u2019s Krystal Murray<\/strong> and Wellington Pride player Joanah Ngan-Woo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Current All Blacks Sevens co-captain Scott Curry<\/strong> has been nominated alongside fellow players Andrew Knewstubb<\/strong> and Ngarohi McGarvey-Black<\/strong> for the Richard Crawshaw Memorial All Blacks Sevens Player of the Year.<\/p>\n

Sky Super Rugby Player of the Year includes a second nomination for Highlander\u2019s halfback Aaron Smith<\/strong>, alongside Blues\u2019 loose forward Dalton Papalii<\/strong> and Crusaders first five-eighth Richie Mo’unga.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The stand-out performers from the Bunnings Warehouse NPC, as voted each week by Sky commentators will be in the running for the Duane Monkley Medal. The finalists for that award are Lincoln McClutchie<\/strong> (Hawkes Bay), Stephen Perofeta<\/strong> (Taranaki) and Luke Romano <\/strong>(Canterbury).<\/p>\n

Waikato<\/strong>\u2019s Bunnings Warehouse NPC Premiership and FPC winning teams are both up for adidas National Team of the Year awards, alongside Super Rugby Aotearoa champions the Crusaders<\/strong>, and Bunnings Warehouse Heartland Championship winners South Canterbury<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All teams in black that took the field in 2021 will be in the running for adidas New Zealand Team of the Year, and their respective coaches nominated for ASB New Zealand Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n

The ASB National Coach of the Year nominees include Neil Barnes<\/strong> (Taranaki), Ross Filipo<\/strong> (Waikato NPC), James Semple<\/strong> (Waikato FPC) and Crusaders\u2019 Head Coach Scott Robertson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The New Zealand Rugby Referee of the Year nominees are Tiana Ngawati<\/strong> (Bay of Plenty), Ben O\u2019Keeffe<\/strong> (Auckland) and James Doleman<\/strong> (Otago).<\/p>\n

The community award for the Charles Munro Rugby Volunteer of the Year sees nominations for Paul Batters (<\/strong>Counties Manukau), Peter Chaplin <\/strong>(Canterbury) and Greg Heller<\/strong> (Otago).<\/p>\n

The hotly contested Sky Television Fans Try of the Year is open for public vote. Click here to place<\/a> <\/strong>your vote, which closes at 5pm today (Thursday 2 December).<\/p>\n

Three awards will be announced on the night \u2013 the NZRPA Kirk Award, the Steinlager Salver and the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year.<\/p>\n

The ASB Rugby Awards will air on Sky Sport 1 on Wednesday 15 December at 8.00pm.<\/p>\n
