\u00a0– RugbyHeartland from today have been given the go-ahead to publish stories from the Tasman Rugby Union’s (TRU) e-newsletter the “Clubland Chat”. So we shall now be able to bring you all the Club News from the Nelson Bays RU and Marlborough RU’s .<\/em><\/p>\n

So to start , here is a a look at how the Nelson Club scene is going and again thank you to the TRU for allowing us to spread the news to a wider audience.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"nelson1\"<\/a>Second round of the Bayleys Tasman Trophy got under way on Saturday 3rd May with much anticipation around the meeting of the clubs from both sides of the hill. <\/strong><\/p>\n

None were more impressive than Waimea\u2019s demolition of Central at Jubilee Park 80-38. Waimea opened the scoring early and as the score suggests ticked along at about a try every 7-8 minutes. Waimea\u2019s pace of game was a telling factor with the ball movement out flanking the Central defence on many occasion. Though well beaten Central still scored some very good tries of their own through a sometimes timid defence, ensuring the contest latest the whole 80 minutes. A cameo from Marty Banks back from Hurricanes duty and more direct running from the Waimea pack gave the home side much front football which was gladly received and converted at every opportunity.<\/p>\n

Kahurangi dispatched Moutere 31-3 at Riwaka with some good old fashioned hard work. The forwards and back shared the kudos with both raw power and finesse creating many opportunities for the home side. Moutere didn\u2019t lack endeavour just possession after many pressure related errors handed back the ball whenever they looked likely. A good win from a Kahurangi side that has lacked some finishing in previous games.<\/p>\n

Marist finished off Awatere in style at Trafalgar Park eventually beating the Marlborough south siders 50-21. Speed around the ruck was Marists biggest weapon, regularly catching the Awatere defence on the hop and getting behind a shallow defence to score some very good tries. Awatere came to Nelson with some good form and showed plenty of promise throughout the game, threatening more often than not, but just couldn\u2019t take all the chances they created.<\/p>\n

Nelson had the only local derby in Nelson travelling only as far as Stoke to draw the battle lines. Nelson beat Stoke 33-19 on the back of a strong first half performance. Not much went wrong for the Blues as their outside attack clearly had the edge on their opponents. However not for the first time the Stoke team gathered their troops and took it to their opposition. It was more Stoke\u2019s fight than Nelson\u2019s failure to contain and put them away. Stoke showed good ticker to get themselves into the game though time eventually did run out.<\/p>\n
