The Thames Valley selectors have named their team to challenge Counties Manukau for the Ranfurly Shield on July 2 2014, at Pukekohe.<\/p>\n

The Swamp Foxes, whose biggest scalp remains Australia, will be presented with their first challenge for the Log o’Wood since 2007.<\/p>\n

It will be their 14th challenge overall since first given a crack in 1951.<\/p>\n

Thames Valley had a decent hit out against the Cook Islands, winning 19-12, while the Counties Manukau Cavaliers beat the Waikato Harlequins 26-21 at Beetham Park last week.<\/p>\n

“It was a positive exercise for us and we gained some good information from it” said coach Tana Umaga.<\/p>\n

“As we get close to naming a squad, it is forcing us to make some tough decisions on selection with plenty of the players performing well.”<\/p>\n

Umaga is expected to name his team today.<\/p>\n
