Heartland Championship – Week Four Preview

We look at Week Four of the 2015 Heartland Championship and Mid Canterbury are the only un-beaten side in the 2015 Heartland Championship as they start to gear up their defence of the Meads Cup for the third consecutive year, as we head into Week Four or moving week.

With Mid Canterbury and Wanganui setting the early pace we are followed on 10pts by South Canterbury , Wairarapa Bush and Thames Valley all equal and only separated by points differential.

Mid Canterbury travel over the alps for a rare visit to Greymouth , only the 14th time since 1927 the Hammers have made the trek over the Alps. But the Hammers do have the overall advantage , since 1927 the Hammers have struck Gold on the coast 10 times with one famous draw back in 1984. Otherwise their overall record against the red and whites points to another possible win as West Coast have only triumphed 4 times over the Hammers in 34 first class occasions.

We highlight though this week our Match of the Round , as King Country host Thames Valley , this match has huge importance for both sides as Taupo hosts the Centennial Cup , the Trophy up for grabs between these two unions each year over a variety of age group matches culminating with the Heartland match. But the bigger picture shows a win here for either side , even though King Country are currently 11th will go a long way towards the end of season finals . The Swampfoxes can solidify their position for a Meads Cup place  while the Rams could give their season a boost by getting them back into the picture albiet the Lochore Cup , as a loss could see them drift away from the middle of the pack.

Since 2006 the sides have met on 10 occasions with the honours split to 5 wins each and with an overall point differential of only 0.60pts a close exciting match is on the cards.
