Waitohi scored a very impressive victory over fellow competition leaders Wanderers in Brightwater on Saturday. The match was a very tight affair played in wet and windy conditions.
Wanderers held a slender 3 nil lead until near full time but Waitohi snatched the game 7 points to 3 with a try to midfielder Sanualio Sakalia. Best on the day for Waitohi was once again their big tighthead prop Ross Geldenhuys and flanker Vernon Fredricks. For Wanderers No 8 Tone Ng Shiu and prop Siua Halanukonuka were standouts.
At Lansdowne Park, home side Central left it late but managed to beat Marist 12 – 8. Central adapted really well to the conditions and deserved their victory; Jesse MacDonald was outstanding for the Blues whilst fullback Ra Tamati also had a top game. For Marist, halfback Jackson Harvey was their best.
In the other games in Marlborough Waimea Old Boys proved too strong for Moutere running out 50 points to 8 victors.
Whilst games in Nelson went the way of Kahurangi, who edged out Harlequins, Stoke who beat Renwick in a high scoring encounter and Nelson who overcame Awatere.
